CHILDREN’S SUMMER ART CLASSES

WHAT: Art classes for kids with different projects each week (collage, drawing, photo-paper prints, etc)

WHEN: Saturdays June 29-August 17, 2019. 10:30 AM-12:00 PM

June 29Hispanic Folk Art – Create a craft sarape (blanket) and/or an Ojo de Dio (Eye of God) while learning about the Aztec & Mexican cultures. Hosted by Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys

July 6Kandinsky Circles – Use construction paper to create concentric circle compositions while learning about Wassily Kandinsky, the Bauhaus, and color rules like complimentary & monochrome. Make more than one to complete a large composition or make one to hang on the wall. Hosted by Debbie Thoma

July 13: Collage Portraits – Cut out pieces of magazines and scrap paper to create a portrait or a vision for your future self. Portraits can be finished on the photocopier for a cool punk aesthetic…the original DIY.

July 20: Bird or Dinosaur? – What can you see in a single line? Students will make big squiggles with a large marker & then turn that line into any creature they might imagine or picture on the page using a medium of their choice.

July 27Pointillism – Create beautiful & complex images from simple dots. Form patterns, portraits, or landscapes using Q-tips as paint brushes. Mix colors to create your own palette or see how far primary colors will take you.

Aug 3Clothespin Puppets – Paper cut-out puppets that use a clothespin as the mechanism for a mouth. These cute creatures can be made from a supplied stencil or created from scratch by a young creative mind.

Aug 10: Book Making – We will explore a variety of simple book making techniques to create a pocket notebook your child can be proud to call his own.

Aug 17: Colorful Coasters – Create sets of coasters for your tables at home. We will have stamps & paints to make a matching set. Personalize them for your family or make a gift for a friend.

WHERE: Burien Public Library, 400 SW 152nd Street, Burien
