Burien Arts is pleased to announce a new program in partnership with the Highline Heritage Museum: In the Artist’s Studio.

In the Artist’s Studio was envisioned as a series of workshops by local artists describing their process and technique. These were to be in-person at the Highline Heritage Museum, Burien.

With pandemic restrictions, we have been presenting the classes via Zoom. The classes are videoed by Burien Arts and produced by the Highline Heritage Museum via a YouTube link. Once inside gatherings are permitted again, we will hold classes live at the Museum, 819 SW 152nd Street, Burien, WA.

Our current artist is Lezlie Jane. See her video below:

Rebecca Sayre was our artist teacher for November. See her video on YouTube .

In October 2020, artist Reinhardt Hollstein gave a Zoom workshop showing how he creates his “electronic touch audible paintings” of iconic musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and Bob Marley. The paintings can be touched to play a 30-second clip of their music.  Please see a video on YouTube.

Artist Paul Illian launched the series with a Zoom workshop on landscape painting in August 2020.  Please see the video here.

Paul gave an in-person workshop, Landscape Painting with Paul Illian, in October, 2019, at the Museum.

“Helena Rogers and Paul Illian are professional artists who volunteer their time and talent in support of Burien Arts,” BAA president Grace Stiller said. “Helena and Paul  both could have received either award since both volunteer and are excellent fine arts painters. We like to honor them and acknowledge their commitment.”

The awards will be presented each year to an Artist and Volunteer of the Year.

The trophies are from Burien Trophy.
